The site is great – amazing in fact. The only issue I see is there is so much that it can be overwhelming. If I saw only bullets on a page and then was able to click to read more I think that would help.
We are all craving space and simplicity in our lives. When I look at all that is available to read I think ” I have to do that later when I have a lot of time”. If instead just one idea could catch my eye, it might encourage me to move forward.
I have recently been getting involved in our local call leadership group. They have a similiar vision it seems to you. I am wondering if you could leverage them in some way or get CTI to pour resources into your site. Have you explored that already?
You are an inspiration Brian and I am so proud of what you have done!! GO ELK!
Thanks for your suggestions dkrone1 – much appreciated! I like where you are pointing regarding space and simplicity. None of us need unnecessary complications in our lives.
Notice that under the heading “Recent Posts” in the left column, it provides the titles of recent posts (who knew!) there with links. I think this is what you are suggesting? Given this, I think it might help if I reduce the number of posts featured on the home page to maybe two or three. Posts that are earlier than this (but still fairly recent) can then be accessed from Recent Posts, or if older still, from the Archives.
Would love to hear from you and others if this format would work better for the community…thanks again for engaging here!
I love the site too Brian and have spent a lot of time enjoying your writings and the videos.
Two logistical comments from a technophobe.
I have had trouble getting here by googling “connected in community” and found another site which is a .org that is similar- not sure if that is an example of being connected in community and synchronicity or an obstacle for your site? Also maybe it gets cured by the number of hits- not sure you can control google when a site is new.
Also – I wish I could tell when and where others have posted – I didn’t know anyone had posted until I got to this page- it might generate more dialogue if it was easier to find new posts from the home page?
Keep it up Brian – you are awesome!
Thanks for your feedback mac – really glad you are enjoying the site!
It’s funny that you found the .org site – LOL! This was actually an initial prototype of the current .com (.org is also my domain). I am intending to pull .org down shortly and re-direct it to .com. And by the way, there is nothing that you can control with google
! Increased traffic for .com will increase its google ranking over time.
Good point about comments. I’ve added a section in the left margin called “Recent Comments” which shows you a summary of the most recent 10 comments made on the site so you can check there to see if new comments have been made.
Hope that makes life easier for you mac – stay connected and keep sharing your thoughts with us here
!
Just to give you some feedback on your GRRRREAT web site.
On the home page—–the login and registration is hard to find. It is not very prominent on the page. I did not realize that it was there until I closely looked for it.
Can it be incorporated in all pages in the body of the pages?
Lost password/user ID. I forgot my user ID and password and was unable to have it sent to me because I forgot my user ID. Can the request to send the user ID emailed to the email address on file as well as the password reset??? I did not want to re-register because I forgot my UID.
Is there automatic notification of new content when it is added to the site?? What is involved in requesting automatic notification when new information is added??
Thanks mikey29 for your feedback – much appreciated!
Regarding the log in/registration: Once you have registered, at the bottom of each post (and comments as applicable), you will either see “You must log in to post a comment”, or “Logged in as mikey29. Logout”. So, if you’re not logged in, you can do some from each post, and then you should be able to post your comments. You might also want to have a look at Comment On A Post to visually see what I am referring to.
Re forgot your user ID: If this happens again, you can email support@connectedincommunity.com and you will be emailed your user ID. This is NOT an automated process, so it may not be sent to you right away
!
Re automatic notification: you can set up a feed and all new post content will be automatically forwarded to your chosen news aggregator. Click on the orange RSS feed button in the top right hand corner (or click here
) , choose your web-based or desktop news reader, and follow the directions to set up a feed.
Hope this helps – stay connected!
Brian,
This website is like an exquisite gemstone – many facets, each brilliantly shining and alluring. And so much to dive into – a wealth of information and support.
My primary feedback has to do with visual design, not content. Content is AWESOME.
Similar to what dkrone1 mentioned, the presentation is rather overwhelming, starting with the Home page. I suggest trimming it down significantly. I know you want to invite your visitors in to see what all is there but in designing the space, it’s best to make it easy for them. It is very busy the way it is and difficult to know where to go.
Although I feel I know what this site is about and what you want for it, I would like to see a crystal clear statement or description of what I might come there for. If it is your tag line, then expand upon that succinctly and briefly. I would make that the main focus of your home page. You can have links to other pages but make it clean, simple, and consistent across the page. That doesn’t mean it can’t be exciting and colorful and attractive!
Ditto for your other pages.
I’m happy to work with you in any way that could be helpful.
And BRAVO to you Brian for bringing this dream to the world.
Brian, you are incredible!!! This website is awesome and yes a bit overwhelming for a simple right brain thinker like me AND I am looking at it as an incredible smorgasbord that I can go back to time and time again for second helpings and more. Looking forward to getting, giving and sharing information. H.
Hey thanks Helga – glad you’re enjoying the site. We’re looking forward to hearing your perspective on the site’s content as it evolves – staying with your smorgasbord metaphor, we want to know whether you think there’s too much spice, not enough sugar, or whether the food is undercooked, overcooked or just right for your palette!!
And, let others know who you think would appreciate the site like you do ok? Healthy community shouldn’t be kept a secret!
