Frequent Questions Answered…

Getting Your CIC Experience Started

  1. What value can I expect to receive from participating? Connected In Community is an online community focussed on building offline community.  It is a place to meet and exchange with others around the world on topics related to leadership and community-building.  Be prepared to be inspired through learning about some amazing work that is being undertaken within this community, as well as outside of it, as well as other inspirational content.  And enjoy this content by receiving it when and where you want – visit the site regularly, receive the content via RSS feed on your news aggregator, and download available audio content to your iPod or other MP3 player.

  3. How will this community benefit by me participating? We need your voice.  You have gifts, experiences, perspectives and learning that only you can bring to others here.  Diversity provides a richer experience for all, and your active participation and contribution will enrich this community.  We value respectfulness and integrity here - so it’s ok to openly disagree with others as long as these values are honoured.

  5. Who participates in this community? People who are concerned about improving the connection and strength of the offline communities that they belong to (or wish to create).  This includes people who are actively leading their communities currently in various capacities, as well as those who are “leadership-curious”…folks who want to make a bigger contribution in the world and who make not yet fully know what that looks like.  The fabric of this online community has room for diversity in many ways – geographically, economically, professionally. politically, generationally and spiritually.  Please add yourself to our leaders map so we can see who and where you are!

  6. How do I get started as quickly as possible? For you bottom-line types, we suggest that you just get yourself Registered to allow you to immediately engage in the CIC dialogue. Then wander around the site and familize yourself as you go. For everyone else, the most thorough orientation will be to spend a few minutes on the following steps to get yourself fully operational in the least amount of time:
    • Go to Why CIC Exists if you haven’t already been to find out why CIC exists. This will give you a high level overview of CIC;
    • Have a look at the Site Tour video to become familiar with the layout of the site and the resources that are available;
    • Review this FAQ page in full for the answers to commonly asked questions;
    • Dig into past posts on the Home page (don’t miss the Archives on the left sidebar for older posts);
    • Finally, and most importantly, get yourself Registered to allow you to engage actively in CIC by adding your comments to posts along the way – we have been waiting to hear what you have to say!

Once Your Feet Are Wet…

  1. How to do I submit a comment about a post? You can submit a comment at the bottom of any post, and certain featured pages (like this one!).  You need to be registered and logged in to CIC to do so.  Then, scroll to the bottom of the post or page you want to leave a comment on.  You will see the number of comments to date, the comments themselves, and then a box where you can type in your comment.  Then click the submit button below the box and you’re done!  Note that your comment will be moderated before it shows up on the site.  This process is another check to ensure that the integrity of the dialogue remains high and is not compromised by outside spammers.

  3. Why do pop-up windows come up periodically when I am reading content on this site? This site has embedded software that allows you to see a preview of a designated links.  Where you see a bubble next to a hyperlink like the one you see here, you can mouse-over the bubble, and a new window will pop-up to show you a preview of the contents available through that link.  Sometimes, the bubbles will contain a video which can provide you with useful information without having to navigate away from the original window.  The first time you mouse-over a bubble, there may be a slight delay.  Subsequent mouse-overs for that bubble should not be significantly delayed.
